The World Dance Alliance-Americas is excited to announce that their next Conference & Festival Assembly will be hosted by the Asia Pacific Dance Festival and the University of Hawai'i at Manoa's Theatre & Dance Department from July 26 to 31, 2015. The theme for the Assembly is "Spaces and Places: Exploring Dance Narratives through Alternate Lenses." Activities will feature scholarly papers, pecha kucha, panel discussions, master classes, choreography labs, and performances. Participants may want to come early to attend the Asia Pacific Dance Festival, from July 14 to 27 (more information at http://www.outreach.hawaii.edu/community/asiapacific.asp).
With Spaces and Places: Exploring Dance Narratives through Alternate Lenses as the focal point of the event, WDA-A encourages broad investigations into the following questions: How is dance affected by spaces and places? How are artists, educators and researchers engaged in using traditional and alternative spaces and places? How might new engagements with spaces and places provide new opportunities for dance and dancers? How does space and place affect expression in dance? What changes emerge when dancing in new spaces and places?
With these questions in mind, we urge participants to propose new possibilities for the many different modes of presenting, experiencing, producing, and teaching dance. Proposals are not limited to or by the Conference and Festival’s theme, which is considered as a catalyst for discussion rather than a restraint.
Presenters and participants are anticipated from North, Central, and South America countries, as well as many international visitors!
