2016 World Dance Alliance Americas General Assembly

Moving Interactions: Dancing through In-Between Spaces

August 7-12, 2016

WDAA’s next Assembly will take place at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico, from August 7-12, hosted by the School of Arts and Humanities/ Dance Program. The university of about 8000 students is situated in Cholula, Mexico's most ancient city. It is 7 miles from Puebla, and 70 miles southeast of Mexico City. There are numerous historic sites to visit.

The Assembly seeks to raise questions of how dance, often thought of as representative of culture, negotiates and has negotiated interactions of bodies and spaces in ways that address the needs and the circumstances of the participants. In particular, focusing on the in-between engages not only locally specific interaction but also larger interactions across borders. Our hope is that the conference will lead to important conversations about the in-between spaces that emerge through danced interactions within the Americas.

The Assembly features scholarly papers, panel discussions, master classes, performances in diverse spaces, choreolabs, and meetings of our four networks: Creation and Presentation, Education and Training, Research and Documentation, Support and Development.

Detailed information about the university, transportation and accommodation can be found at Performatica: http://www.performatica.org/transportation_eng.php )
