Pecha Kucha Proposal

One of the key intents behind WDA-Americas Conference and Festival is to provide dance researchers a forum to share their scholarly research though presentation opportunities. To this end, spaces have been reserved for presenters to present in at the venue. Presentations will be open to registered participants of the WDA-A Conference and Festival.

Pecha Kucha is a presentation format in which 20 slides are timed to be shown each for 20 seconds (no more than 7 minutes total). Scholars who have developed a strong research focus but are in the beginning processes of writing and presenting their research are encouraged to present in this format. This format is especially good for graduate students wanting to clarify research purpose statements and gather feedback and possible insights from other researchers. Scholars whose first language is not English may find this format useful since the key points can be placed on slides. (It has been our experience that this format tends to draw large audiences and engage exciting conversations!). If selected, more detailed instructions on the pecha kucha format will be provided.

All proposals must be submitted and presentations conducted in English, unless the presenter can provide his/her own translator. Presenters must provide their own laptop and VGA adapter.  Additional time will be made available for visual aids setup before and questions and dialogue at the end of each session.

The online application for Pecha Kucha Presentation will require the following information:

  1. presenter's name, title, phone number, institutional affiliation (if applicable), mailing address, e-mail address, and title of Pecha Kucha presentation;
  2. an abstract  summarizing the topic, methodology and research to date, and indicating how the proposal relates to the Assembly’s theme (no more than 250 words in length);
  3. no more than 7 contextual/bibliographic references in American Psychological Association (APA) style. An example is available at https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/; and
  4. a brief presenter's bio (no more than 150 words in length).

If a proposal is accepted, the abstract and bio will be included in the Conference & Festival Assembly Event Guide. All participants receive this guide to assist them in determining which of the myriad events occurring throughout the week they wish to attend. Please take time to craft the abstract and bio carefully. Descriptions and bios which exceed the stated length will not be considered.  All identifying information will be redacted prior to the blind review process.

Pecha Kucha Presentation Proposal applications will be reviewed by the WDA-A Research & Documentation Network and the Conference Committee for consideration of inclusion in the Scholarly Paper Presentation series.
